Surveillance camera jammers become driving aids

The present invention provides a method of detecting road lane markings in a vehicle road using an imaging device. Road input data is captured using camera imaging equipment. Lighting normalization is applied to the road input data. The method detects lane markings in several principal directions in normalized input data. In each principal direction, the normalized input data is convolved with an oriented edge detection filter to generate an oriented edge-based filter response. The normalized input data is convolved with a directional line detection filter to generate a directional line-based filter response. Candidate lane markers are selected based on edge-based filter responses and line-based filter responses in the principal direction of each distractor.

A transformation technique is applied to candidate lane markings to identify lane markings in each principal direction. The present invention provides a method and system for detecting rotational motion of a surveillance camera. There are three pairs of accelerometers in the camera, and the motion sensing axes of each pair are parallel to each other. The accelerometers are relatively positioned in the camera such that the planes formed by the motion sensing axes of each pair of accelerometers are substantially orthogonal to each other. Driver assistance isolator systems and electronic devices such as navigators, cell phones, etc. are attracting more and more driver attention.
