How to Block Devices from Accessing Your Router

This process varies by router make and model, so we've tried to make these guides as general as possible. That being said, it shouldn't be too difficult, in line with learning how to find your router's MAC address or performing other setup-related tasks.

Your first step is to make sure your network is up and running. Make sure the router is connected to the modem via an ethernet cable, and that both are powered on and providing an internet connection signal.

Now it's time to go to your router's admin panel or settings page. Every router enforces a different process to get into setup, so check the instructions that came with your router or do a quick web search.

In most cases, you can access your router's settings by typing the router's public IP address into the address bar of your web browser. In other cases, use firmware software or a dedicated smartphone app.

After viewing the settings page, poke around for a list of devices currently connected to your wireless network. See any unrecognized devices? There should be an option to permanently block them.

Reboot your router to make sure your changes have been accepted and the suspicious device is gone for good.
